Nahr Al-Bared Activity
1 December 2010

In December, Unite Lebanon Youth Project (ULYP) prepared a fun-filled socially-enriching cognitively-stimulating program for sixty Palestinian girls and boys residing in the Nahr Al-Bared refugee camp. The children, between the ages of 10-12 years, were divided into two groups of thirty children each. Each group was transported to and spent four days at ULYP's Dibbiyeh campus to take part in various programs. From 9am to 7pm each day, the children experienced inspirational activities that challenged creativity, bringing out each child's talent. An afternoon was also spent at a theme park, where the children enjoyed riding on rollercoasters and bumper cars. In the evenings, after a healthy dinner, the children would sit together in the common room, where they watched Disney movies and played board games that were spread out over the entire room. Watching the kids enjoy every minute of the activities throughout the day was an experience in itself. By the end of the day, the children would slowly fall asleep against their will, afraid of wasting time by sleeping. The children were given a backpack and sports suit for them to enjoy during the activities on campus and to take home with them when they leave. The entire trip for these children was an opportunity to experience a childhood that they had only heard of or have seen in pictures, but have never really lived.
